La Comarca

The Matarraña / Matarranya region is made up of 18 towns: Arens de Lledó, Beceite, Calaceite, Cretas, Fórnoles, La Fresneda, Fuentespalda, Lledó, Mazaleón, Monroyo, Peñarroya de Tastavins, La Portellada, Ráfales, Torre de Arcas, Torre del Compte, Valdeltormo, Valderrobres and Valjunquera, Valderrobres being the largest population, administrative capital of the region, while Calaceite is the cultural capital. Located in the extreme northeast of the province of Teruel, the territory is eminently mountainous, since the foothills of the Iberian System join the Catalan coastal mountain ranges, although within the region there are different more or less homogeneous areas. The most rugged terrain is in the area of ​​the Ports of Beceite, with altitudes close to 1,400 meters. This area, in which the Rocas del Masmut are also included, is configured as one of the places with the greatest scenic appeal in the region.
